Singing Me to Sleep

Singing Me to Sleep

words/music by J. Hart, © 2007

I hear the lovers in the next room
They're always at it, from midnight 'til noon
I can't decipher who's the wolf
And who's the sheep

I hear the devils down below
They want me up all night you know
But I hear the angels
And they're singing me to sleep

   And through the years
   These Irish eyes weren't smiling
And past all the friends that somehow slipped away
   The more that I lose
   The more my burden lightens
'Cause I hear the angels and I think they're here to stay

I watched the dogs chew up your pride
I felt the spear piercing your side
But I couldn't even hold your hand
In the end

I heard the devils down below
Trying to steal away your soul
But I heard the angels
Calling you to them

   And through the years
   Your Irish eyes weren't smiling
But I never saw you wipe a tear away
   The more that you'd lose
The more your spirit frightened me
But only the angels could take your soul away

You came to me once in a dream
I feel that I was callous and mean
I guess we never really had
Much to say

You looked so sad, so full of regret
I've not been able to shake it off yet
If you are lonely, you know you're only
An angel away

I hear the lovers in the next room
They're always at it, from midnight 'til noon
I can't decipher who's the wolf
And who's the sheep

I hear the devils down below
They want me up all night you know
But I hear the angels
Singing me to sleep

   And through the times
Your eyes get soar from crying
And past all the friends that somehow slipped away
   The more that you lose
   The more your burden lightens
'Cause I hear the angels and I think they're here to stay
